Why we built this.
Most American history is told by institutions that did not want Black Americans in it. The textbooks left out what was built. The history books left out what was taken. The libraries are losing the books that try to put it back.
The Ledger is our answer.
We record what Black America built and what was taken. We document the achievements institutions erased. We document the violence institutions hid. We keep what others would not keep, in a form that cannot be quietly removed.
The Ledger is built to be permanent. Owned by the community it serves. Structured so it cannot be sold. Designed to survive whatever comes for it next.
This is not a museum. It is a working record. New entries are added every week. The history is not finished. Neither is the work.
