Founding

Bishop State Community College was founded in the summer of 1927 as the Mobile Branch of Alabama State College, during the presidency of Harper Councill Trenholm, as an in-service arm of the Montgomery institution. In 1965 the Alabama State Legislature ratified its establishment as Mobile State Junior College, severing the tie to Alabama State College.
