Founding
Clinton College was founded in 1894 as Clinton Institute by Presiding Elder Nero A. Crockett and Rev. W. M. Robinson, and named for Bishop Isom Caleb Clinton, the presiding bishop of the Palmetto Conference. It was incorporated as Clinton Normal and Industrial Institute on June 22, 1909, with authority to grant state teacher certificates.
