Founding
Lane College was founded in 1882 by the Colored Methodist Episcopal Church, and the CME High School began its first session on November 12, 1882, under its first principal and teacher, Jennie E. Lane, daughter of founder Isaac Lane. The school was renamed Lane Institute in 1884 and chartered under the laws of the State of Tennessee.
