Founding
Langston University was founded as a land-grant college under the Morrill Act of 1890 and established by House Bill 151 on March 12, 1897, as the Colored Agricultural and Normal University. Instruction began on September 3, 1898, in a Presbyterian church in Langston with an initial budget of $5,000.
