Founding

Shelton State Community College was established by resolution of the Alabama State Board of Education on January 1, 1979, combining Shelton State Technical College, established in 1952, with the Tuscaloosa branch of Brewer State Junior College. Its Fredd Campus was created by the state legislature in 1963 as the Tuscaloosa State Trade School.
