Founding
Texas College was founded in 1894 by a group of ministers of the Colored Methodist Episcopal Church, now the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, to educate a disenfranchised population in East Texas. Its charter issued July 1, 1907, established the corporation's name as Texas College under the ownership of the CME Church.
