Founding

Xavier University of Louisiana began in 1915, when Katharine Drexel and her Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament opened a high school on the site previously occupied by Southern University in New Orleans. A Teachers College and a College of Arts and Sciences were established by 1925, and a College of Pharmacy was added by 1927.
